What are Blight Properties?
Blight properties are parcels of land or structures that are neglected, deteriorated, or abandoned to such an extent that they negatively impact the health, safety, welfare, and economic vitality of a community. They often exhibit:
Physical Decay: Structural damage, broken windows, collapsing roofs, overgrown vegetation, accumulated trash, and general disrepair.
Safety Hazards: Unsecured entry points, potential for fire, pest infestations, and attracting illicit activities.
Economic Impact: Decreased property values in the surrounding area, reduced tax revenue, and a deterrent to new investment.
Public Nuisance: Creating an eyesore and diminishing the quality of life for neighbors.
The Chautauqua County Land Bank works to acquire, stabilize, and redevelop these blighted properties, returning them to productive use and improving neighborhoods.
